Has anyone else noticed the increased reference to "Rules of Engagement?" There seems to be a rising theme on the right claiming the reason things have gone badly in Iraq is the military is handcuffed by "rules of engagement" that don’t allow them to really fight.
The sub-text is "we’d be winning if it weren’t for those damn liberals who set the rules of engagement."
This has to be resisted – the notion Iraq hasn’t worked because we’ve just been "too nice" is ridiculous, and its an attempt to shift blame away from a fundamentally flawed strategy.
